Petition text:
Objective: For Increase and just distribution of financial resources in the black people social projects and activities for black people. We want see us with our eyes and to be represented by ourselves.
We are members of Estimativa Association, nonprofit brazilian organization that propagates the African and afro descendents cultures since 2005 (five years ago) with about 325 events between produced, promoted and disseminated. We are aware and witnessing the difficulty of activists, artists and producers when we´re black people and work with African themes and read less to maintain its activities and projects. Many groups, institutions and individuals in the fight for crumbs, because the greatest obstacle is the budget constraints of public and private companies in providing resources to our racial segment.
With this, we must share our outrage at the event “Back to Black” out in the city of Rio de Janeiro, for two consecutive years that raised millions on the public coffers to use the African theme and read less toward the cost of your holiday despite absorbing features as narrow a segment of the budget, conducts entrance fee to $ 53.00 (fifty three dollars) for each day of the event, limiting access to an audience almost exclusively belonging to the economically favored class of our society. But what was exposed in newspapers, in an attempt to social accountability was displaying a black minority participant said the event as the beneficiary of such spending.
After to have participated and watched numerous discussions inside and outside the black militancy about the event in question, we created our Manifesto Online (Petition) for people who also feel uncomfortable with this situation can support the rejection of the practice and implementation of the “Back to Black”, not be legitimate or representative to the theme and extorted absorbed and not allow access to those resources should be genuinely intended.
Black people photographs were displayed and used throughout the event, unfortunately the absorption and ownership of our image and culture continue: reaffirm that we do not need another to tell our story, but once, and claim the need to increase governmental resources available to the achievement and maintenance of projects and events made by and aimed at black women and black men.
